A Hot Winter gets under way!

God is doing something special at Toongabbie Anglican.
Next weekend marks the start of the ‘Hot Winter at TAC’. There has been unprecedented interest in the Women’s Dinner, which is the first of our major events this winter. It is now effectively sold out (but please register your interest on the waiting list). It is wonderful that so many visitors are coming.
It is often at times of outreach that the evil one looks to attack. There is more than usual opportunity, for as people work busily together tensions and misunderstandings can easily arise between people who are working together for Christ.
It is an apt time for us to ‘Resist the devil, and he will flee from you’ (James 4:7). It is a great joy to see us connecting with so many who need to hear about Jesus and, as we do so, let us graciously work together.
Something we can all do is pray. We can pray that the events run smoothly, that the evil one will not gain a foothold during this time, and above all that those who don’t know Jesus would understand and respond to the glorious message of salvation. It is this message that God desires we make known to the world.
Of course, there is far more happening over winter than just the Women’s Dinner. Our inaugural Kids Holiday Club will kick off in a few weeks. And I still can’t believe that we will have the internationally renowned John Chapman speaking at our Men’s dinner. Then there is the Indian Food Festival, which is already attracting interest around Sydney. Don’t forget about our parenting night – what a honour we have to help people in parenting and at the same time share the message of Jesus.
And with all of this, I haven’t even mentioned the Sunday mornings with the Archbishop of Sydney, Peter Jensen. What a privilege we have! What an opportunity!
In all this, the greatest joy is hearing of individuals inviting people to come. Last year someone told me of their journey in inviting a friend. They were surprised at how the invitation was so warmly received as they realised they needn’t have been so nervous! It is a story I hear repeatedly: people are more willing to be invited than we expect.
What a privilege to be involved in the amazing work God is doing, isn’t it?
