Bangladesh Mission Update
Just a quick note to let you know that, after three long flights and lots of bumming around international airports, we arrived safely in Bangladesh yesterday afternoon! It has been a long time coming, but we are very grateful to the Lord that he has brought us here safely.
We touched down in Dhaka at about 1:30pm local time on Saturday. After negotiating with the complex process of Bangladeshi immigration (slower for foreigners like us), baggage checks (thankfully none), currency exchange (all done by hand!), and customs (non-existent), we emerged into the sauna of Bangladesh and made our way to Savar, where we are staying.
The 350+ children of the children’s home welcomed us warmly as we came in the gates - we were greeted by children waving flags, blowing trumpets, banging drums, and shouting, ‘Welcome! Welcome!’ We were also treated to an evening welcome concert where the children sang and danced, and we showed off how poor our Bangla is. This was followed by a lengthy sleep!
Today, we have been to church and taken the Lord’s supper with other believers. We have an easy day today to get used to the climate (35 degrees and so-humid-you-are-drinking-the-air) and prepare for the next three weeks. The girls have already raided the tailor shop for salwar qamizes (tunics).
Tomorrow, we will be travelling to the village until Wednesday. Please pray that we will travel safely and will be blessed by our time there.
Some things to pray for:
- Thanks for our safe arrival and for the encouragement we have already received;
- Thanks for the fellowship we have experienced in church this morning;
- Pray for Graham and Sam (who are both unwell) to recover swiftly;
- Pray for our travel to the village to be safe;
- Pray for those who we will meet and share with;
We will send another update soon. Thank-you for your prayers and encouragement. More to come!
Blessings,
The B-Team (David, Sarah, Kit, Lucy, Sam, Graham, Lorien, and Ben)
