Bangladesh Mission Update
Dear friends of the B-team,
We have returned from our village adventure!!
After briefly settling here at the Children’s home in Savar (Dhaka), seven out of eight of the team set off on Monday afternoon at 2.00pm for a 5hour journey to the village. Unfortunately, Graham could not join us, deciding that he was too ill to cope with the travel and other strains, and thought he could be of use here at the children’s home while also recovering.
Our journey consisted of an exhilarating drive through Bangla traffic (where rules are suggestions. Though amidst the chaos, Sam theorises there is a system of understanding and logic between cars, rickshaws, people, animals, trucks and buses), a ferry ride, a long drive through rural (and beautiful) country and lastly a short boat trip across a river to the village.
We arrived at about 8.00pm and entered the village. Power was intermittent, regularly dropping out when the mains supply failed, until they cranked up the generator. The people were so friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious!
On Tuesday morning, we took part in their morning devotions at 6.00am and Dave gave his testimony (through James our guide and translator).
After breakfast we had a the great privilege of hearing the stories of a number of men, a truly humbling and moving experience. As these men headed off to breakfast, we were taken on a tour of the village, we got to see how these people live, meet many and absorb the culture.
The afternoon was spent preparing for the evening devotion which we were running. We taught them some songs, Sam gave a talk and Lucy shared her testimony. The people were very gracious with our lack of Bangla and hasty organisation, but they appeared to enjoy the change.
This morning (Wednesday), we took a short but very wet and very muddy/slippery walk to the school. There we taught some simple lessons and on our way back, saw other parts of the village, including other children’s homes and hostels.
We are now back safe and sound at the children’s home on Savar, Dhaka, and have found Graham to have improved.
Overall, the village was a great and enlightening experience. To share with brothers and sisters of another culture was truly amazing and humbling. Praise God for our safety, for the people and their kindness and hospitality and for the powerful work He is doing.
Please keep us in your prays:
- Praise that Sam and Graham are better and improving
- Praise for the great blessing the trip to the village was
- Pray for those we met and shared with
- Pray for continual energy to start our work properly here at the children’s home in Savar
Thank you all for your support,
The B-Team
(Ben, Lorien, Dave, Sarah, Kit, Lucy, Graham and Sam)
