Change

Sunday 28 June, 2009 · Posted by Donny Kwan

As I reflect over the last two weeks I am struck by the number of ways life has changed for the Kwan family. With the arrival of a new baby we no longer live as a family of four but a family of five. My sleeping patterns have changed, my family relationships have changed, my routines have changed, basically my whole life has changed (and for the better I might add).

Sometimes change can be hard. As we lose the familiar we might feel unsettled, we can feel out of kilter with changes to set routines. One might feel like all of a sudden things have become a bit out of control.

In the flux of change we can easily slip into losing sight of the bigger picture and even the long term goals. During change it can be hard to think or see beyond the here and now, as we’re so busy coping with the chaos around us. The urgent takes over and we can easily forget the important.

Change may be big or small, when something is added or subtracted. Adjusting to change is not easy but necessary as we live in this world. We can either let change enrich or enslave us. We can either fight change or accept change.

How we handle change is important. Whether change is big or small any change requires a response on our behalf. We can either respond positively or negatively. What I want to encourage us to is a godly response. Being flexible to adjust and to readapt to the new situation we may find ourselves in.

Over the past 15 months we have seen God do some incredible things at SNC. I have seen God bless TAC with growth in Christian maturity and numerical growth. As God has blessed us with growth some structures have needed to change to accommodate and look forward to continued growth. How we respond to these changes is important. I pray that we will be godly and at the same time be excited as we continue to see God work as his word is proclaimed.

With Benjamin joining our family I can no longer live as if there were only four people in the family. I need to change. I need to be flexible, I need to be godly in my thoughts, words and deeds to the changes in my life.
