The talks at 9.45am, Sunday, August 30 and Sunday, September 6 are the highlight of Toongabbie Anglican Church’s “LIFE: Be in it” fortnight of community activities.
The special community fortnight also includes an Indian Food festival on Saturday, August 22 and a Parenting Workshop on Friday, August 28.
It is highly unusual for the Archbishop to spend a fortnight at a local parish church.
“I’m delighted to be involved in these events at Toongabbie,” Archbishop Jensen says, “and I hope many people in the local area will be able to connect with our church community by coming along.”
Toongabbie’s Anglican minister, the Rev Raj Gupta, said the events have been organized as gift of love to the local community.
“We are expecting standing room only on these Sunday mornings,” Mr Gupta says. “The Archbishop is an international leader, and it is a privilege that he is coming. Already there is great anticipation in the local community. He is able to analyse our culture so articulately, and always seems to make people think.”
The same motivation is behind the Indian Food Festival and Parenting Workshop.
“There is a growing Indian community in our local area and running a food festival with help of cooks associated with our church is a way to make them feel welcome in Toongabbie,” Mr Gupta says.
“One of the most pressing issues for many people today is parenting,” he added. “For this reason, Toongabbie Anglican is also hosting a parenting night. Parenting experts will help provide a framework for thinking about parenting, with plenty of practical tips.”
Toongabbie Anglican Church is located on the corner of Binalong and Burrabogee Rds, Pendle Hill.
