Weekly Blurb Forward the vision

Forward the vision

In each of our services today I will be speaking about the work of the Ministry Strategy Group (MSG) of our church. We have been looking at where we believe our church should be headed in the short and longer term. We realized that we need to look at three areas:

  1. The DEFINITION of who we are -- what do we mean when we say we are Toongabbie Anglican Church.
  2. Our VISION for the future that grows out of who we are and
  3. Specific MINISTRIES that give expression to our vision.

As we tried to formulate a concise statement of our vision we realized that we really could not improve on the Vision statement for our Diocese given by our Archbishop, Peter Jensen; which is

‘To glorify God by proclaiming our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ in prayerful dependence on the Holy Spirit, so that everyone will hear his call to repent, trust and serve Christ in love, and be established in the fellowship of his disciples while they await his return.’

We trust that you, and everyone else, in Toongabbie Anglican Church will take this vision aboard as we seek together to explore the direction we believe our church should be taking for the future.

We intend to keep the momentum going in developing our vision for the future. One way in which we will be doing this is through the MINISTRY STATEGY GROUP (MSG for short — adds flavour to our church) which has been appointed to guide our thinking in where we should be going.

Members of this group at present are : Philip Bassett, Neil Atwood, Sandra Ortega, Gary Bennett, Beth Hardie and David Gawthorne with the intention of adding a couple of others in the near future Watch this space).

If you have any ideas about how we might become more effective in impacting our community with the gospel, then the MSG are the people to tell. Perhaps you've heard of something great that other churches are doing; perhaps you woke up in the middle of the night with a sudden inspiration: perhaps you've had a bee in your bonnet for years but you thought it was too outlandish: pass it on to MSG and we guarantee to at least give it consideration. As we look to the future let's not be bound by the past.

Please pray for our church and the MSG as they take up this important task. Let's "plan as if there is no such thing as prayer, and pray as if there's no such thing as planning."
