Garbage in equals garbage out

An old saying in the computer data processing business is "Garbage in equals garbage out. " Referring to the fact that if you put bad data into a programme you're going to get bad information out of it.

In Romans 12:2 the Apostle Paul tells us to "be transformed "by the renewing of your mind. " Well what are you doing to "renew your mind "? More specifically what do you read? Do you put garbage in and expect to get something other than garbage out?

As Christians we should of course be feeding our minds with the word the word of God and there is no better way of doing it than regular, daily, bible reading. Just as a piece of cake, or a bikkie for morning tea after church on Sunday will not sustain our bodies for a week, neither will the few verses of the Bible read in church each Sunday sustain our spirits for the week.

But what else do you read? Do you read any Christian books, Christian biographies, Christian magazines, Bible commentaries? Do you feed your mind or fill it with garbage? It is very easy to read just the newspapers, or the gossip magazines, or the top selling novels, but it takes a bit more discipline to read good, solid, worthwhile Christian literature. Do you feed your mind junk food or good solid, nutritious sustenance?
