Weekly Blurb Jesus is Lord

Jesus is Lord

A number of people in Toongabbie Anglican Church are using Don Carson's daily bible reading guide 'For The Love Of God' based on Robert Murray M'Cheyne's bible reading schedule. The guide takes you through the New Testament and Psalms twice and the rest of the Bible once in either one or two years.

The readings for August (when I wrote this) include Romans and one of the passages this week was Romans 10. Don Carson's notes draw our attention to Romans 10:9 "If you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

He says that faith in the heart without confession with the mouth is unbelievable; and that confession with the mouth without faith in the heart is merely formal.

The Apostle James (2:14-18) similarly says, "What good is it if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?... faith by itself if it is not accompanied by action is dead... show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do."

Our Christian faith must be active. It must result in godly living, acts of Christian compassion, but above all confession of Jesus as Lord. We cannot be content to gather week by week, praising the Lord, and growing in our knowledge and love of him, without also being concerned to take the Gospel to the community and world in which we live.

The One Year Reading Plan from Good News Publishers is also based on the M'Cheyne reading system, available through our site, the readings change daily.
