Keeping Things In Perspective
Sunday 21 October, 2007 · Posted by Raj Gupta
This week I heard of a young man, aged 35. He had two young children aged under 4. Two months ago he had some pain in his back and saw a physio, who suggested a scan may be worthwhile. The scan revealed terminal cancer and the young man died during this week.
It is so easy in our world to get side tracked into its business and other things. And sad real stories like this one are a powerful and sobering reminder to keep our lives in perspective. It is a timely reminder for God’s people at TAC.
At our morning meetings we have begun a series in Genesis, which is and will take us to the heart of God’s purposes in creation of the universe and mankind. We need only to listen to the nightly news to be reminded how far our world has come from these magnificent purposes. Perhaps what is even more disturbing is that our world is so ignorant of God’s purposes, even though they are so clearly laid out in the Bible.
At Sunday Night Church we today begin a new series in Ephesians, a letter that sets the Christian life in the context of where God is taking our world and setting forth the enormous implications of the Gospel. Remembering where our world is heading allows us to work out our purpose in life.
I heard of someone else who passed away this week. She was an elderly Christian lady, who was known for her continual challenge to people about their relationship with God. Apparently she would frequently greet people with the most searching and important question of them all: How is your soul?
I can’t think of a time I have ever been asked that question, nor of me greeting someone else in that way. Can you? Maybe we have lost some of the deep concern and care we should have for one another, and for our world.
Yours in Christ
Raj
