Life in the Son

Sunday 22 April, 2007 · Posted by Peter Kemp

Our Bible talk series on 1 John concludes today, as we focus our attention on 1 John 5:12 – He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

In John Stott’s commentary on John’s letters, he says the following:

Our certainty is twofold: objective (that the Christian religion is true) and subjective (that he himself has been born of God and possesses eternal life). Both are expanded by John, who takes it for granted that this double assurance is right and healthy in all Christian people…

To be a Christian in the language of John is to have been born of God, to know God, and to be in Him, enjoying that intimate personal communion with Him which is eternal life. Of this heavenly birth and life-giving relationship, we have no doubt.
I do hope you will read 1 John again at your leisure. There is much more to be discovered about Christian assurances from its pages!

Beverley and I do thank you for so warmly welcoming us into your midst. We have enjoyed fellowship with many and have been encouraged by hearing numerous stories of God’s faithfulness. Be assured of our continued prayers.
