Make the most of a great opportunity

It is now just 2 weeks until our second Men’s dinner.
Last year we were privileged to have veteran evangelist John Chapman. Even in his retirement, he still had such an engaging way to help people understand that Jesus died for their sins. With age and health slowing Chappo down more recently, I was so thrilled that he agreed to come and join us.
This year, we are privileged again. This time we will have Simon Manchester as our speaker. Many will be familiar with Simon’s voice, for his talks are broadcast weekly on the Sydney Christian radio station. While his base is St Thomas’ Anglican Church, North Sydney, he is regularly in demand as a speaker around the world and also at major conferences.
Simon too has a unique gift for communicating the Gospel of Jesus in simple and clear ways. It is not too often that we have the privilege of a speaker of such calibre and experience. And for this reason I want to encourage all of the men among us to make the most of this incredible opportunity.
In Matthew’s Gospel, Christians are told that ‘You are the salt of the earth’ and ‘You are the light of the world’ (Matthew 5:13, 14). It is glimpses like this that help us understand why God has left us in the world, and it is to be a help to them, so that they may too know about the amazing offer of forgiveness.
May I encourage then men among us, firstly, to make sure that you come to the dinner yourself. And secondly, may I encourage you to invite someone to come along. The experience of many shows that, even if the invitation is declined, many appreciate the invitation and so often many fruitful conversations result. Many have been quite amazed. And I hope this year you might be too. Time after time people discover that those they know are far more willing to talk about Christian things than we give them credit for.
You can register yourself and your friend at the back of church or via the website.
