Matters of the Heart, Sunday 12th Mar 2006

This week, at Sunday Night Church, we begin the mini-series of talks called ‘Matters of the heart’.
Week one (this coming Sunday) covers the whole of the book in the Bible called ‘Song of songs’. This little-read book has been the subject of a good deal of conjecture over the years, but the best Bible scholars agree that the Song of Solomon is a collection of love poems between a man and a woman, celebrating the sexual fidelity God intended for marriage.
God established marriage, including the physical union of a husband and wife (Gen 2:18–25), and Israelite wisdom literature treasures this aspect of marriage as the appropriate expression of human sexuality (Prov 5:15–20).
This kind of love between a husband and wife creates a bond that is “strong as death” (8:6), and the Song of Solomon celebrates such passionate love. It’s not a very long read, so come to SNC next week having primed youself by having a read though before-hand.
The week after we look at the topic ‘On being single’.
