Monday on my mind

What has around 160 limbs, forty mouths and as many tender hearts?
Answer: Monday Group.
If we’re meant to be Jesus’ hands and feet to carry the good news, demonstrate his love and speak forth the Bible’s message of hope, Monday group is a good start.
The Monday Group is a mixed group of, currently, up to forty people, mostly Seniors, but also some younger members, who meet weekly at the church for Bible study, prayer and fellowship. Visitors are welcome at all our meetings and outings.
The group started several years ago with around eight women meeting weekly in a home. This group operates between 1p.m. and 3p.m. on Mondays during school terms, with the exception only of Public Holidays. We are currently offering three small groups for women and one men’s group within the overall structure. A fourth group for women is anticipated.
Twice yearly the session is dedicated to a missionary focus with visiting speakers. Lunch is shared on these occasions, and the program also includes two group outings per year. Our recent outing to the Gallipoli Mosque at Auburn followed by lunch in the park and a visit to the Japanese Garden was both culturally informative and relaxing. It provided us with helpful insights into Islam, but also gave those at the Mosque opportunity to interact harmoniously with a group of Christians.
This year, two training opportunities have been incorporated for members. Thus far, three ladies groups have completed the Bible Overview, learned a method of biblically sound personal Bible study, and watched a video presentation defending the trustworthiness of the transmission of the Bible over the centuries. The organization is consultative with members having opportunity for feedback. All members are encouraged to use their natural and spiritual gifts for the benefit of the group, wider church and community. It is therefore a team effort with many people contributing to its smooth operation.
People are at different stages of their walk with the Lord. All have a deep and committed pastoral concern for each other that manifests itself in caring acts.
So Monday Group is an outwardly focused group of Christians, committed to growth in their relationship with the Lord, with each other, and with the wider community within which they live and worship.
