Reunion

Last Saturday, Margaret and I got together for a gathering of the guys, and in most cases their wives as well, that I went through Moore college with. The occasion was to celebrate 25 years since we left college. (Actually I got out a year earlier - but that’s another story.) Most of us had been ordained in the Anglican church but a few were Presbyterians and independents.
It was great to catch up with fellow-workers in the Lord’s harvest, particularly as there were some there we had not seen since college. Some of us are parish ministers still serving in Sydney diocese, others are in other dioceses or denominations. Several are now lecturers at various theological or bible colleges and we even have a couple of bishops, Ivan Lee and Glen Davies. Some of us have spent some time in missionary service with BCA, CMS and other organizations.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was each of us sharing what we have done and where we have been since college and what our children (and for some of us grandchildren) are up to.
Of course some of our number were unable to attend, some are serving in other parts of the country and some are overseas. We had an e-mail from Helen Hoskins who has been in Tanzania with CMS for the last 23 years.
Sadly three of our number have died. Several are no longer in full-time ministry but are still serving the lord in other capacities.
The occasion was a subdued affair but for me, running through it was a sense of excitement as we shared about what the Lord has been doing in us, through us and by us over all these years.
As I’ve been thinking about our gathering during this last week I keep remembering the Apostle Paul’s words in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
