Scripture teachers
Sunday 7 July, 2002 · Posted by Philip Bassett
On Thursday, when I wrote this, I was sorting out the scripture materials for the second half of the school year. As I was doing it I was reflecting on what a wonderful privilege we have to be able to go into the local schools and teach the children about Jesus.
Unfortunately there is a downside to this wonderful privilege. We don't have enough teachers. We only have enough teachers to take Scripture classes in 4 of the 6 primary schools within our parish boundaries and even within those schools not all classes are covered. Our church, which has over 200 adults attending each Sunday can only field 6 scripture teachers including Neil, Sandra and myself.
The need is real and the need is urgent. If we cannot adequately cover the classes in the local schools then we will find that we lose the privilege to go into any schools.
Perhaps you can help in one of the following ways?
- Become a scripture teacher yourself - training is available. Speak to me or Neil about it.
- Pray for our schools ministry. Us teachers will be greatly encouraged to know that there are people backing us up with our prayers as we go into the schools.
