Weekly Blurb Sunday lunch

Sunday lunch

Sunday 19 March, 2006 · Posted by Philip Bassett

What are you having for Sunday lunch today?  Traditional roast leg of lamb with all the trimmings?  A barbecue with your neighbours next door?  Peanut butter sandwiches with the kids?  A nice leisurely lunch at your favorite garden restaurant?  How would you like a change of diet?

What about one Sunday soon having nice fresh Student Minister with a side order of Student Minister’s Wife?

When I was studying at Moore College and was student minister at Normanhurst (in those days we were known as Catechists)  each Sunday Margaret and I would load the kids in the car about naught AM and head off to be at Normanhurst in time for the 9am service.  I would be involved in the two mid-morning services while Margaret and the kids would go to one then to Sunday school, then we would all head off to lunch with a different family each week.

It was part of my training for me, with my family, to spend time with families in that church.  We had some wonderful times and made some lasting friendships, plus they gave us lunch.  Most weeks Margaret and the kids would stay with the family until I picked them up after the evening service for the trip back to our house at Newtown.  A long day but very satisfying.

Now that Tim Adams is our student minister I am organizing a roster for various families to have Tim and Leah for Sunday lunch.  The idea is that most Sundays you will invite them to join you for lunch and for as long afterwards as is mutually agreeable.  Sometimes Tim will have a meeting to go to or college assignments to work on and sometimes you will have other things you have to do.

Please look at the roster and put down your name, address and contact ‘phone number and Tim or Leah will confirm it with you before turning up for lunch on the day.

I hope that both you and they will benefit from the time you spend together.
