Weekly Blurb The five minute rule

The five minute rule

This week I spent three days at the Centenary preaching Conference organized by Katoomba Christian Convention (time I learnt how). One of the speakers was Frank Retief, bishop of the Church of England in South Africa. Frank mentioned his FIVE MINUTE RULE for life. It goes something like this;

Are you having a hassle or an argument with someone? Are you trying to decide what to do in a trying situation? Then ask yourself, If I knew I was going to die in five minutes and then face Jesus in judgment, how would this affect my reply or decision?

Frank was saying that applying the Five minute Rule to many of lifes situations helps us to decide whats important and what is not. Does it really matter if I dont have the last word in this argument? Does it really matter if I dont buy that item? If I do that, how will I explain it to Jesus?

I was thinking that adopting the Five Minute Rule could benefit all of us. It would certainly help us to focus on the important issues of life and possibly save us a lot of aggravation.

There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword,
But the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18
