The Impact of Christ

This week we remember a long standing parishioner who gave much of her life and time in helping many people in our church and in our community.
Ada McNamara was a dearly loved lady who had given up much so that many people may benefit from her love and concern. He passing away on Monday brings much grief and sadness for those who knew her.
During the funeral service I heard how much God had impacted her life and how that in turn led to her impact in the lives of family and friends is a testimony to what a great God we have. While there was much sadness there was much to celebrate in that she trusted Jesus and his death on the cross for us all. God had impacted her so much that she even chose her own funeral hymns to be sung as a declaration of how great God is and how amazing his grace is to us.
Death is never pleasant and can seem cruel. 1 Corinthians 15:56 says, “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.” Our sinfulness results in death. It would seem like humanity is caught in this trap of death. Everyone will face it, but it does not end there. Even though we all will face death someday Jesus gives us these words of assurance in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” The assurance of knowing that we will rise and live with our Lord Jesus is comforting to know in times of sadness and grief.
Why not take a moment now to thank God for the grace that he shows us and for the promise of raising us to life again through Jesus? I pray that we may we be people like Ada who were so deeply impacted by Jesus’ death on the cross that our lives will in turn deeply impact those around us.
