The other six days
Sunday 11 December, 2005 · Posted by Philip Bassett
A number of times over the years I have been asked this question: “I know ministers don’t just work on Sundays, but what do you do the rest of the week?”
So here’s an edited version of my week starting last Sunday:
Up at 6, breakfast, dress leave for church. Receive message Hot water at Katoomba leaking badly. 8am Lead and preach. 9:45am Lead and Preach. Lunch then head for Katoomba missing Prayer Meeting I was planning to attend. Fix leak. Stay overnight.
Monday: Return home about lunchtime. Buy Margaret birthday present. Carols at Grandson’s school. Granddaughter’s Speech Night.
Tuesday: Mow Lawns. Darcy Rd Scripture. Funeral interview. Wedding interview. Fill in gaps with paperwork.
Wednesday: Give Margaret Birthday present. Staff meeting planning 2006 teaching/preaching programme. ‘Phone call about problems with my parents in hostel. Start sermon preparation. End of year dinner of Margaret and my growth groups. Lovely.
Thursday: Pastoral visit. Finish sermon. Visit parents. Family dinner for Margaret’s birthday. Parish Council Budget meeting.
Friday: Write this and edit news. Funeral. Pastoral visit. Prepare Services for Sunday.
Saturday: Joyce’s party. Final preparations for Sunday.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to only work one day per week?
