The Problem of the present, Sunday 12th Feb 2006

Traditional Church (8am) and Family Church (9:45am) continue the series “Like Father - Like Son”.  This week God is Merciful looking at Deuteronomy 30:1-10.  The all-new Kids Church continues this week at 9:45 church.

Sunday Night Church (6pm) continues the series “When the going gets tough…”.  This week The Problem of the present looking at 2 Corinthians 5:1-10.

The first part of 2 Corinthians 5 is something of a continuation of some of the issues in chapter 4, but it lends itself to addressing some pretty significant issues in our lives.

I don’t know about many other churches, but in ours we don’t very often openly check on each others spiritual health. We seldom ask each other “How’s your spiritual life going”?
In fact, I suspect in some quarters that question is right up there with “How’s your sex life?“ in terms of being socially acceptable! But the fact is, I suspect many, many of us acknowledge to ourselves that our passion for Jesus isn’t what it was. That our conviction of the gospel has waned somewhat.
That can happen for lots of reasons, but one of the big ones is the problem of the present, the here and now, and how we live so much in that realm.

If anyone is entitled to feel jaded with Christianity, Paul is, and yet this chapter is full of excellent evidence that he was anything but jaded. Than goodness he shares the secret with us.

So, how is your walk with Christ? If it’s feeling a bit sad and lacking in conviction, join us on Sunday night for a good dose of excellent advice and encouragement from Paul the apostle.
