The Unique Opportunity of Easter
Wednesday 19 March, 2008 · Posted by Raj Gupta
With Easter just a few days away, please remember that Easter is far more important in the Christian calendar than Christmas. For Easter is the time that we remember that Jesus died on the Cross and rose again. Whilst our community seems to be using the Easter weekend more and more as an excuse simply for an extra long weekend, for Christians it should be a time to firstly and foremostly remember the extraordinary things Jesus has done. They are events that changed human history forever.
It is a time of the year to make joining with other Christians at church a priority, wherever you may be.
Good Friday
At 9.45am on Good Friday we’ll be looking at Isaiah 52:13-53:12. In what ways does this text (written 600 years beforehand) predict the events of Jesus?
Easter Day
Then at 8am and 9.45am on Sunday we will ponder more specifically the resurrection of Jesus. Read Mark 15:42-16:8. Why do you think Mark’s Gospel ends with the strange v8 (v9-20 as shown in some Bibles are likely to be a late addition)?
