Thinking to 2010…

Sunday 27 September, 2009 · Posted by Raj Gupta

1 Corinthians 12 speaks of the body of Christ comprising of many different parts. All parts belong to the same body, and it is essential for the different parts to work together. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them. And the different gifts have been given all for the common good.

Already as the year as progressed we have seen this work out remarkably across our church as people have worked tirelessly together to letterbox drop, organise and host events, be involved in church life, and the list is endless.

People have worked for the end of seeing ‘that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow …. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord’ (Philippians 2:10-11). It is the same end to which the Apostle Paul laboured, and this is the reason that God has left us in this world. His work is now that the kingdom be built up and out (Ephesians 4:12). Already this has been happening remarkably in our midst.

As we begin to think about 2010 (yes, there is only 3 months to go), we would like to see even more people involved in serving God and his people among us. Accordingly, we have developed a process to help you think about what abilities God has given you that you may be able to use for the benefit of others.

This is a particularly apt time for us to do so, for any growing church (like ours) has more and more needs. That said though, we are trying to approach this by helping you think about you.

This is the process that the insert is designed to facilitiate. God has given everyone gifts to serve him – even if you don’t think he has!

From time to time some feel that they don’t know what contribution they could make. If that is you, please indicate that on the insert and we will help you work through this question first. There are so many different ways in which you can help, and more than likely so many ways that God has gifted you to do so.

While it is true that our church is only able to function because of the body of Christ working together, that must not be our starting point.

Part of growing as a Christian is becoming more like Jesus, and one component of this is beginning to serve his people. It is the example he set us. Indeed, even the son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and togive his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)

If he gave his life to serve you, how can you use what he has given you to serve him in some small way? Amazing things have happened so far at TAC. Just imagine the body of Christ working even more effectively in our midst.
