Weekly Blurb Uniting church decision on homosexual ministers

Uniting church decision on homosexual ministers

Sunday 20 July, 2003 · Posted by Philip Bassett

It was with a heavy heart that I followed the media reports of the Uniting Church Assembly this week, as they debated and then voted to allow practicing homosexuals to be ordained and to minister in their church. This follows hotly on the similar controversy within the Anglican church in Canada and England.

Bishop Peter Tasker on behalf of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney in the absence overseas of Archbishop Peter Jensen said, Homosexual practice is incompatible with Scripture.

This is the core issue. The statement made by the President of the Uniting Church, Rev Dr Dean Drayton, seemed to me to be saying that unity at all costs is more important than biblical truth.

Already bible-believing evangelicals within the Uniting Church are talking about leaving that church and perhaps forming a separate body.

Please pray for the Uniting Church, that its members, particularly its leaders, will rediscover biblical truth, and lead its people back to unity in Christ not just with themselves.

And while you are at it, pray for the same thing for the Anglican Church.
