What Next?

Over the weekend someone said to me “Raj, the last few months at church has been so exciting. What are we going to do next?”
It has been an incredible time of opportunity, which began with our sell out Men’s and Women’s dinners (Chappo is no longer accepting speaking engagements – we were one of his last!). The inaugural Indian Food Festival was an overwhelming success. The Parenting night was so valuable (the talks are on our website and booklets available at the back of church). And off course our special weeks with the Archbishop at morning church, and Mike Doyle and Stephen Liggins were unforgettable. So many visitors came along. So many people heard about the Lord Jesus.
However, we must focus on people not events. The events have provided us with unique opportunities, but the real and continuing work is the growth of the seed that has been planted. The Gospel is not about what one knows, but who one knows. And now is the time to pray for God to work through us and others so that people grow in their living and active relationship with Jesus.
Off course we all play a part in God’s exciting work, as we have experienced with the organisation of many events. Some work behind the scenes. Some serve. Some wait. Others are ‘up-front’ people. Others have gifts of teaching. That is how the body of Christ works. The end of all of our work is the Word of God taking its root and producing fruit. As Romans says:
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? …… As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:14-15)
God works through his Word. And we all have a part to play. Will you pray that God will work in the hearts and minds of those who heard about Jesus? Will you take the opportunity to water the seed that was sown?
Needless to say, many other exciting things are coming up at our church: the Women’s Spring Afternoon tea, the Men’s breakfast with a twist, and the launch of our after school Kid’s Club in Term 4 (see reverse of the calendar for more information).
But in all of this activity, let us not forget how it is that God works.
Raj
