Weekly Blurb Where is your treasure?

Where is your treasure?

It is very easy for us to forget that the reason God has left us in the world is to advance his kingdom (cf 2 Peter 3). We tend to get caught up in all kinds of things in this world. Life seems to be busier than ever (despite the promises of the technological revolution!). Stresses seem to be at an all time high. And before we know it, without us even thinking about it, our life can reflect more the life of someone who is building treasure in this world, rather than in the world to come (Matthew 6:19-24).

God could have chosen any method he wanted to, to advance his kingdom. But the way that he deliberately chose is to use his people. Accordingly, he has poured out gifts on people (Ephesians 4:10-13). Each of us is gifted differently, and yet each of us has a contribution to play in building the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 12:1-11).

In this light, I want to commend Dave and Sarah Adams. We were privileged to hear from them briefly last week, and to hear of their upcoming trip to Thailand. It is not a sight seeing trip. It is one that has the advancement of God’s kingdom firmly in mind, because Dave and Sarah have kingdom priorities. I have had the added privilege and excitement of seeing how God has worked to bring them to this point over the last year or so.

If you missed last week, we heard that in just over a month’s time they will travel to Thailand (the ‘outback’ part, not the tourist part) for 6 months. Sarah will use her gifts in primary teaching and Dave will use his to do youth work. Their real desire is to meet people to share the Gospel with them, and encourage God’s people.

This is not just a journey for Dave and Sarah, but it is also a journey for our whole church as we support, encourage and pray for them. I hope that we can hear regular updates while they are away. But for now, perhaps the effort and sacrifices they are making can be an example to each of us in some small way, as we too seek to advance the kingdom of God by using the gifts he has given us?
