Would it matter?

The other day I heard of a minister who was being interviewed by the selection panel for a new position asking the panel members, "If someone exploded a bomb in this church during a Sunday service, destroying the building and killing all the congregation, how would this effect the ministry of the gospel in this town? "None of the selection panel were able to answer, but he got the job anyway.
It is a sobering question. If Toongabbie Anglican Church suddenly ceased to exist, how would that effect the spread of the gospel in our community?
- If your answer is NO EFFECT AT ALL then it's time for us to do a serious rethink of just what we think we are doing.
- If your answer is NOT MUCH then what are we and you and I going to do to improve the situation.
- If your answer is AN ENORMOUS IMPACT then Praise the Lord and let's get on with the job.
Of course instead of Toongabbie Anglican Church you could ask yourself "If I was suddenly removed from the scene, what effect would that have on the spread of the gospel in my community? "and the responses would be much the same.
Please pray for the work of our Ministry Strategy Group as it looks at how Toongabbie Anglican Church should be impacting the community for the gospel. Also pray for yourself as you look at how you should impacting the community for the gospel.
